The Borough of Madison was named after the fourth President of the United States. Its broad tree-lined streets reflect the colonial characteristics of its early development. Madison is the home of two major academic institutions: Drew University and Farleigh Dickinson University. The Lakeland Bus Line provides limited commuter bus service between Madison and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City.

Madison town is also close to major Highways like Routes 78, 287, 80 and 280 and New Jersey Route 24. Newark-Liberty International Airport is about 15 miles from Madison. Nearby Morristown Municipal Airport provides services for corporate and private jets.
